Eastern North Carolina has a wide array of seafood spots along the coast. But Pamlico County seafood dives truly focus on fresh cuisine. From local, wild-caught shrimp and fish, to local shedded softcrabs, to salty and sweet native oysters, Pamlico County seafood restaurants boasts the real deal. While there are many places to eat in Pamlico County, we selected a few seafood dives located in "the County". 

Charlies Restaurant, Bayboro

Located in the county seat of Bayboro, Charlies Restaurant has been serving seafood and home-cooked favorites for over 30 years. From seafood sandwiches to large seafood combos, the menu here is diverse enough to cater to any budget. If you come hungry, try the 5 Way Seafood Combo. 

Mayo's Seafood Restaurant, Alliance

Real seafood served by a real local seafood family. The Mayo's of Pamlico County have a long history of providing wild-caught seafood to their guests. The restaurant is filled with historical images of their commercial fishing heritage, including family photos, boat pictures, and the nostalgia of the generations who make their living from the sea.  They truly emphasize that real, wild-caught seafood is best and serve nothing but that. Indulge in their fried soft crabs or their mouth-watering crab cakes. 

Gary's Down East Seafood Restaurant & Oyster Bar, Arapahoe


Just before you reach the Minnesott Beach-Cherry Branch Ferry on Hwy. 306, you will happen upon Gary's Down East Seafood Restaurant & Oyster Bar in Arapahoe. This hidden gem features a raw bar along with their signature take-out and dine-in service. Their seafood is cooked by your choice of fried, broiled, or sauteed in butter. Check out their grilled shrimp on skewers and the she-crab soup. 

M & M's Cafe, Oriental



Located in the heart of the fishing and sailing village of Oriental, seek out M & M's Cafe for laid-back cuisine with a upscale vibe. Inside and outside porch dining available, try their fish and chips or the shrimp and scallop penne pasta. And for those who seek sushi, Monday night is Sushi night or just simply stop by for a cocktail.

Ten years ago, in August of 2009, the Pamlico County Heritage Center  opened its doors to the public.  Since its opening, the Center has served the public as the gathering place of the history and the traditions of Pamlico County.  With Pamlico County’s history being centered on half land and half water, the Center embraces the rich farming, fishing and forestry heritage of the area. It Takes A Village to Raise Taters

About 7 miles outside of Bayboro, heading northeast on Hwy. 304, when you near Cash Corner and Vandemere, you will stumble upon McCotter Farms / Sackett Potatoes .  This week, trucks from all over the country have made their way here to pick up one of Pamlico County's largest agricultural assets, “taters”. Miss Sils Lemon Pie...the Best Dish in Pamlico County

In October 1978, Brantley and Sylvia Norman opened  The Village Restaurant .  What quickly grew to be a local’s favorite, also became a destination for those outside of Pamlico County seeking fresh local seafood and down - home cooking.  But the story of The Village Restaurant isn’t so much about the food, but really about the owners.     Norman Brantley, who quietly passed away in 2018, was a legend in the Town of Oriental.  Although he was the welcoming and smiling face behind the cash register at The Village Restaurant, right up into his 80 years, he was also a Town Commissioner, Fire Chief, a Police Commissioner, former service station owner, shrimp boat captain and mentor to many.  His work ethic has had an impact on countless folks who knew him or worked for him.       But behind every good man is a great woman and that woman is Sylvia “Miss Sil” Norman.  She has served up countless heaps of fried oysters, made hundreds of crab cakes, fried more chickens and rolled out thousand
